The exhibition of Oh Sugar! The Magical Transformation from Cane to Candy is coming to a close. The exhibition focuses on Philadelphia’s candy manufacturing history, tracing the magical transformation sugar takes from cane to candy. With more than 100 artifacts from the Berleys’ collection of confectionery machinery, molds and ephemera, visitors will get a glimpse into the raw realities and sugar-coated past of Philadelphia’s connection to the sugar industry. The exhibition looks at the evolution of the sugar industry, from the beginning of our love of sugar in colonial America through today.

Franklin McCain, a hero of the civil rights movement, passed away at the age of 73. Famous as one of the Greensboro Four, he initiated a sit-in at an F. W. Woolworth store on Feb. 1, 1960. This sit-in, along with many others, had a cumulative effect that contributed to the momentum that led to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Read more in The New York Times.
